I recently had the honor to be interviewed for the Coppell school "Sidekick" newspaper. It all started when I was half joking with Elizabeth Gassos about doing an article on SuPYo. Knowing she was a writer in the newspaper department, but not knowing she was the featured editor! She said she always did articles for her friends and so she did an interview to make the article. I didn't know till I saw the newspaper that the SuPYo article was on the front page! It was a nice surprise and fun publicity. Thanks Elizabeth!

Website poses eternal question: SuPYo?

By Elizabeth Gassos (Featured Editor)

Who would cut off and give out his dreadlocks? Dye his hair in polka-dots? Or take a picture of himself everyday for 9 months? Why, senior Jason Fletcher would of course. He has been keeping us on our toes everyday with his crazy ways and his awesome website, Supyo.com created in the summer of 1999.

“Originally it was for my friends to see the pictures I had taken,” Fletcher said, “but I began adding funny stuff and anything that I thought was worthy.”

One of his additions is a favorite figure the Boogey Man. Fletcher even has a “Dress the Boogey Man” addition on his website. But how did Fletcher think of his beloved mascot?

“I was playing Crash Bandicoot and there was a little boogey guy named Aku Aku. I love how those sort of things look yet I thought I could make a better boogey guy,” Fletcher said. “They result was the infamous Boogey Man.”

The favorite part of the site according to Fletcher is the Daily Jason. The Daily Jason is Fletcher’s biggest project yet. He has been taking a picture yet. He has been taking a picture of himself everyday since January 7, 2003. A man at c71123.com who has been doing it for over five years inspired Fletcher.

Like the Daily Jason, not everything from Fletcher’s website is completely authentic. He sometimes seeks inspiration from b3ta.com and weeble.jolt.co.uk. His biggest inspiration, however, is cockeyed.com. He goes to these sites when he is running low on creative juices.

One of his most noticeable pieces of art is sitting in the back of his car. The Blue Man is made out of paper mache and he chills out while greeting visitors. Unlike the Boogey Man, the Blue Man came completely from Fletcher’s mind.

“I was driving on the highway one day and thought how funny would is be to have an alien in the car with me,” Fletcher said. “I imagined the reactions of people to that.”

Fletcher’s art has also proven popular among fans. Fletcher has tons of art on his website. Some pictures are from other websites, but the 3D art pieces are Fletcher originals. He enjoys working with cardboard and hot glue, and his favorite pieces are “the shopping cart” and “the hand.”

“My art is meant to make you see something you’ve never really realized before,” Fletcher said.

Last year, Fletcher tried to promote his website by having a lighted sign, dubbed the “mobile sup,” atop his car, a la Dominos delivery guy, with the SuPYo logo, but it was stolen.

“I am saddened that someone would steal the sign, but it will always live on in our memories,” Fletcher said.

Fans of the site say they also miss the “mobile sup.”

“How enriched would our lives be if the ‘mobile sup’ was still among us?,” sophomore Kyle Earnheart said. “The world will never know.”

There are lots of memories people have with SuPYo. When SuPYo had its 10,000th visitor, Fletcher brought a stuffed fish to school and took pictures of people with it. He has all those pictures posted on his website.

Fletcher says he is very thankful to all the people who have ever visited his site and is more than happy to help them out too. Fletcher gave sophomore Scott Muncer some room on his website for some pictures that he took.

All in all Supyo.com is a pretty fun site to go to. And like most people, you might find yourself addicted.

“I go there like three times a day,” Muncer said, “It’s my home page.”

At school, it’s pretty easy to spot Fletcher in a crowd. And sometimes he has something extra special up his sleeve.

“People May Notice is a project I do sometimes to see how many people talk to me about something ‘different’ or ‘weird’ I have done,” Fletcher said, “I once put tallies all over my hand to see how many people would ask me what I was getting people to notice.”

From the Boogey Man to People May Notice, there are so many things on Supyo.com that Fletcher has done that no one will ever run out of things to see.
